10 years of the Marzahn women’s sports hall!
The Marzahn Women’s Sports Hall celebrated its 10th anniversary with an impressive ceremony that underlined the success story of this unique facility. Since its opening in 2015, the hall has developed into a center for sport, health and community for girls, women and families in Berlin-Marzahn. With currently 1064 members, including 165 rehab athletes and 75 10-card holders, the women’s sports hall offers a varied program of over 65 classes per week. From Monday to Thursday, the offer is aimed specifically at girls, women and families, while at weekends the courses are open to everyone. Around 45 qualified instructors provide a high-quality and varied sports program. The women’s sports hall is managed by a dedicated team consisting of four volunteer board members and three full-time office staff. This structure enables efficient organization and administration of the diverse activities. Over 350 guests gathered for the anniversary to celebrate the successes of the past decade. The program offered a cross-section of the wide range of courses on offer: dance performances by the Fit and Fun club delighted the audience with K-Pop, Zumba and senior dance. The ice skating club also presented an enchanting children’s dance. A sumptuous buffet rounded off the celebrations with culinary delights.Several speakers paid tribute to the importance of the women’s sports hall for the district and Berlin’s sports landscape. Jan Lehmann spoke on behalf of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf District Sports Association, City Councillor Stefan Bley (Schools, Sport, Further Education, Culture and Facility Management) and City Councillor Gordon Lemm (Youth, Family and Health) represented the district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf and emphasized the municipal support. Claudia Zinke, who represented both the state sports association and the association for sports and youth social work and is one of the founding members, emphasized the importance of the facility for the promotion of women’s sports. Some impressions of the event: https://www.bewegungsatlas.berlin/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/frauensporthalle_jubilaeum.mp4 The Marzahn women’s sports hall was launched as a pilot project to increase the participation of women and girls in sports in the district. It has achieved this goal impressively over the past ten years. The hall not only offers a wide range of sports courses, but also a protected space in which women can feel comfortable and pursue their sporting goals. The concept of the women’s sports hall takes into account the specific needs of women and girls, such as the desire for modern, health-oriented exercise programs, flexible training times and a place for social encounters. Particularly noteworthy is the commitment to rehabilitation sports, which enables many participants to return to an active lifestyle. The anniversary celebration not only marks a milestone in the history of the women’s sports hall, but also underlines its importance as a role model for similar projects nationwide. With its inclusive approach and diverse program, the facility has proven that it has become an indispensable part of the local community. Looking ahead to the next ten years, the women’s sports hall plans to further expand its services and get even more women and families interested in sport and exercise. The combination of dedicated staff, broad support and a loyal membership base forms a solid foundation for this. The Frauensporthalle Marzahn thus remains a beacon project for women’s sport and health promotion in Berlin and beyond.
